Ultrasonic level gauges probe the working area with ultrasound waves, i.e. pressure waves with a frequency of over 20 kHz. Structurally, such a level gauge consists of an emitter and a receiver of vibrations made on a quartz plate on which the voltage of the reflected signal is measured. The ultrasonic sensor is installed in the upper part of the tank. In this case, the signal passes through the air and is reflected from the boundary with a solid (liquid) medium. The level gauge in this case is called acoustic.
The speed of ultrasound propagation depends on the temperature, so thermal compensation is applied using a built-in thermal sensor. The operating range reaches 25 m with a measurement error of 1%. Ultrasonic level gauges can be used for aggressive media and for media with a wide variety of physical properties, with the exception of highly steaming, highly foaming liquids and finely dispersed and porous granular bulk products.

In combination with 4 freely adjustable switching points and the ability to measure up to 8 m in liquids and up to 3.5 m in bulk materials (on request up to 25 m in liquids and up to 12 m in solids) this sensor can be used for various measuring tasks for linear volume display in all types of containers - with an accuracy of 0.2% and ≤ 2 mm.
